Resume Writing Guide

Resume Overview

Many people consider a resume as a history of their past a record of their Academics and Career history. However a resume is not only a catalog of your past neither is it a personal statement. A resume is a guide of your capabilities and efficiency to your perspective employer. An employer is not interested in what courses you have cleared and what companies have you worked for, he will call you if your resume reflects your potential to work productively in the company. If you want your resume to reflect your potential you should write your resume with the motivation and enthusiasm of an artist on the verge of creating a masterpiece that would awe its onlookers.

The principal objective of a resume is to help you sail through the interview. A resume is effective only if it does help you impress the interview board and clear the interview. A resume is like an advertisement it is effective and worthy only if it can convince the employer to select you.

You need no follow any rules that people have laid down. Your resume doesn’t need to follow any particular format nor does it need to be 10 pages thick. All it needs to be is interesting. With a little effort you can create a resume that will grant you first preference in the good books of the employers. One out of many resumes have that element of interest in them and if your resume has got that element of interest strong enough to grab the employer’s attention. Even if there are multiple competitors for the job, each one with the best qualifications and experiences it is the resume that distinguishes the best from the rest.

Let’s consider an imaginary situation. Suppose you have applied for a job where there are over 999 other applicants (considering the present job scenario this is just a fraction of the actual number). That takes the number of resumes to 1000. Many of them are well qualified and many are overqualified in terms of their experience and academic history. Many of them might be much more qualified than you. But that doesn’t take the job out of your reach. The employer and his board of interviewers are also human and it is natural for them to get bored with the huge stack of monotonous and boring resume. By the time the employer is bored and almost too sleepy read another character. Then he comes across your resume and every word he reads interests him and he is finally awake. He is influenced and impressed. Half of your battle is one here. The first thing he will check next morning is your resume, you are officially recruited at this point, and the interview is just a formality now.
